Hilarious.... and I hate the fact that chocolate for breakfast is reserved solely for children in the U.S. Remind me to start at least one of my days with a chocolate pastry while I am there.

Tower of Babel. Creativity, but I think more of wisdom. We cannot attain godship, but there was a reason that he scattered man and changed their language into the plurality we see today. He did so to remind us of his unique and holy place in the life of His created world. He did so to keep our scholars humble and relying on his divine wisdom, and not our own stabs at grandeur and the divine. We speak different languages to remind us that there is one who speaks only one ;) Good words, sis, and an excellent topic!

I read one yesterday! It said "je ne sais quoi" and it made me mad. The author was finally getting to the point of his very lengthy verbose paragraph/chapter and that is what he ended with...and I had no idea what it meant. I mean I could have guessed what it meant, but then i would spend the next 5 pages wondering if I was wrong?! I had to look it up online (which was annoying because I had to STOP reading and walk to a computer 3 rooms away) just to find out that it means "I don't know." Grr...

sounds great Jo! I know you are improving. I would do the same thing when I was in Ecuador to try to learn more of the language. I took my little notebook everywhere I went and just wrote down words I didn't know. Miss you guys! (and I miss learning a language too!)

Nate and Jo,
Really a terrific blog you have going! I read it with great interest.
And, Nate, you may be interested in a background on the "bottomless coffee cup" story. Many years ago, I was riding into Nashville with your Grandpa, Earl, and he pointed out the cafe just as you come into town. They were advertising the "Bottomless Cup" on their sign outside and Earl was really impressed with the concept. That is the first time I ever remember seeing the term. Now, of course, it is ubiquitous, at least in the States. All over Europe you get the little shot glass of straight caffeine. They called them "umbiqa" in Portuguese, meaning "little beak".
Cheers and Blessings, Paul
